About this event
This fall, the oldest alumni polo match in America is celebrating four decades of polo tradition with the 40th Annual Harriman Cup between alumni from Yale and the University of Virginia. The celebration will take place on Saturday, Sept. 14, 2024 at the Bethpage Polo at the Park facility in Old Bethpage, NY.
After the game, the founders of the Harriman Cup will be honored with the 2024 Harriman Cup Award. The founders include Lou Lopez Jr., Sandy Carden, Zene Colt, Mike Schram, and the late Bill Ylvisaker and Steve Orthwein.
The day-long event includes the polo match, tailgating, and a dance party. Prizes will be awarded for the Best Hat, Best Dressed, Best Tailgate, and Best Dog.
The Harriman Cup was founded in 1984 to commemorate the life of W. Averell Harriman, a 1913 Yale graduate, polo player, and former Governor of New York. Funds raised from the polo match will benefit the undergraduate polo teams at Yale and UVa.
